Story

Creative Director, Rosh Mahtani, says, “I created the Leone Medallion as a reminder to myself, to be strong in moments of self-doubt. It was one of the first pieces I made in 2014. The textured medallion is inspired by the moment when Dante Alighieri finds himself in the selva oscura (dark wood) of the Inferno, confronted by a terrifying lion. His head held high, with a furious hunger, it seems as though the very air around him is trembling with fear. Dante crumbles and has an existential crisis when his mentor and friend, Virgil, suddenly appears to reassure him and give him confidence. It is a turning point, where fear turns to self-belief. Members of The Lion Club are joined together by their stories. The family includes Dina Asher-smith, Sandra Oh, Iris Law and Marcus Rashford.

Responsibility

At Alighieri, we believe in creating forever heirlooms. The elements of this piece are carved by hand, then cast in 100% ecosilver and bronze a stone's throw from our studio in Hatton Garden. The bronze used in this manufacturing process is fully recycled, with all excess metal going back into the cycle of creating tomorrow's forever piece. Our small, family-run caster has been our partner since the very inception of the brand; we source our recycled ecosilver from Cooksongold, our supplier of precious metals who are certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council. The final piece is hand-assembled with care and love, link by link, by our talented makers. Every step of our process is driven by human beings and their stories, from Dante to Rosh to our A-team... to you.
