Since launching Alighieri, the Leone Medallion, an emblem of strength and courage, has become a core part of our story.
To celebrate our fifth birthday, I worked with NET-A-PORTER to create an exclusive pair of espadrilles, for our Alighieri community to walk with the courage of a lion.
As Dante travels through the underworld, his footsteps are unprecedented, and his travels through the scraggy landscape are fraught with challenges.
Nobody depicted Dante’s journey in the same way as Salvador Dalì did, in his illustrations of the “Divina Commedia”. Always looking to Dalì’s magical work, I began to look more at his singular style. Inspired by the way in which he wore his espadrilles in the French Riviera, in Paris, and on the rocks of Cadaques, we sought out the artisans in Barcelona who used to fabricate Dalì’s very shoes, and convinced them to work with us.
I wanted to create a pair that could be worn all summer, with a lion charm, wrapped around the ankle, like a talisman collected on your travels.
When you retire your espadrille for the summer, you can slide the talismans off the ribbon and add them to your necklace layers in the winter.
The Lion and Baroque Espadrilles is designed to bring you courage on your adventures, with the signature lion, a baroque pearl, mirroring the landscapes of the Inferno, as well as Dalì’s hometown.
